I think my no-more-new-projects challenge is going badly. It sort of cramps my style (that being “start a lot of projects, finish only a few”
). I decided to try a different color of Lorenzo’s blanket to see if that inspired me. It didn’t. I find doing granny squares to be kind of boring. I might change my design so that I can finish this project and not bore myself to death in the process.

I’m sorry that I haven’t been posting much. Between trying to find myself a job and trying to transfer my blog to the domain name I purchased, I haven’t had much time for arts and crafts. That, and my self-imposed new-project-ban is really cramping my style. I might have to rethink that one.
Anyway, back to the hosting problems. I could use some help. Are there any experts out there? I’m using BlueHost to host my domain and they use Fantasico for this sort of thing. I think. The problem I am having is with transferring an already existing blog. I figured out how to start a new blog and host it at my domain, but I want to (obviously) have this blog point to my new domain and have all of my old posts over there as well. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
I forgot to mention that my brother arrived safe and sound (and tan) from Israel. He wore the kippah I made for him, just to make me happy. It looked like it weathered well. I was worried that he would be really rough on it and that it would unravel. It does look like it faded a bit though, so that is something to keep in mind if you are using the Lion Brand Microspun yarn in one of your projects.
Last week I challenged myself to finish all the projects I had started but had yet to finish. Sounds simple enough, right? They’re already half completed, how hard can it really be to finish a craft project that is already partially completed. Logic would tell us that it is easier to finish a partially completed project that to complete one that has yet to be started, right?
Well, it is not as easy as it seems and I have figured out one of the major culprits getting in my way: the blogosphere. Yep. You all out there. It’s all your fault! You guys are making such neat things that I constantly want to try what you’ve done that I can’t finish my own projects. Stop that. Stop making such cute stuff. That’s an order. No, wait, it’s not an order. It’s a request, it’s me pleading with you. Begging you even.
In the spirit of taking you guys down with my sinking ship, I thought I would point out some things that have caught my eye. The clever totes created by Something’s Hiding in Here remind me of my silk screen supplies that are collecting dust in my closet. I could be making a drawstring bag that I have been creating in my head, but nope. I was silly enough to challenge myself to finish all my WIPs. Or what about all those adorable doll quilts people are making? And how cute is this Parisian Girl Tote or this Lilac Cat Purse?
That’s okay, using my legal training to its fullest potential, I found a loophole. I can help other people with their craft projects! And that is exactly what I did yesterday. I helped my 12 year old cousin sew up the cutest patchwork purse. Alas, she went off to sleep away camp today, so I can’t claim to be helping her with her crafts. I’ll need a new victim.
Here in Southern California we have a small chain of craft stores called Tall Mouse. It’s been a long time since I stepped foot in one, I guess I just forgot about them. Well, I am very sorry that it has taken me this long to rediscover them! What a great store, especially if you have more modern/contemporary sensibilities (although there was plenty there for you country and traditional folks).
I visited the Cerritos store (they also have stores in Yorba Linda and Laguna Niguel) and right as you walk in there is a display with really cute (and by that I mean the coolest, chicest you’ve ever seen) aprons made from with really cute (and by that I mean the coolest, chicest you’ve ever seen) fabrics. Some of the aprons had been embroidered with designs from the new Sublime Stitching book by Jenny Hart which was prominently displayed next to the aprons. Behind the aprons was an amazing quilt fabric center. They had really beautiful fabrics for reasonable (although not dirt cheap) prices. I would venture to guess that most, if not all, of the major fabric lines you see being used by “trendy” quilters and sewists (seamstresses?) were there in addition to the usual calico styles.
A quick walk around the rest of the store proved equally as satisfying as the fabric and aprons. They had an excellent selection of yarns (including tons of Berroco) with probably 20-30 different things crocheted or knitted from the yarns on display. It’s always nice to see what a yarn looks like knitted/crocheted up before purchasing it. They also had a large faux flower section with what looked like really nice fake flowers, not those tacky ones some people’s grandma’s have (my grandma got her degree in interior design so I don’t want to besmirch her good style sense by implying that she would have bad fake flowers in her home…). On the other side of the store Tall Mouse had supplies for seemingly every kind of craft you could imagine. Everything from really nice looking sea shells to lanyards in every color imaginable.
I give Tall Mouse two enthusiastic thumbs up. They are definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.
Well, it looks like it is official: David lost the kippah I made for him. Here he is wearing a blue and white kippah. Oh well. Right now he is at the Kotel celebrating Shabbat. He comes home on Sunday!
UPDATE: I just got off the phone with David and he informed me that he didn’t lose the kippah I made him, he just replaced it with ones he bought in Israel. Hmph. Apparently, men need more than on kippah…

Ellen of L.A. Is My Beat has asked “How does your craft place look?”
I usually crochet in my living room. Sometimes I crochet in bed before going to sleep. Every other week I crochet with a crochet group here in Long Beach. We meet at a local coffee shop. If I’m sewing, it’s at the kitchen table. Same thing with paper crafts.
I am boycotting all new projects. I have too many works-in-progress to justify starting any new projects. Plus, some of my WIPs have time deadlines. So I’ve said enough is enough and will be dedicating myself to WIPs. Please give me a firm handslap if you see me starting a project that is not listed below.
